The Tale of the Beaufort Trading Company
The largest and most famous of these was the Dutch East India Trading Company, which became the world’s first stock issuing multi-national corporation. From 1602 to 1796, The “Company” as it was called, employed more than 1 million Europeans, utilized 4,750 ships and moved more than 2.5 million tons of trade goods between Europe and Asia. Eventually, the “Company” was given quasi-governmental powers, including the ability to wage war, imprison and execute convicts, negotiate treaties, coin money, and establish colonies.
Beaufort Trading Company was established long, long ago in the year 2001 as a private Company under the astute and wise leadership of Sir Kevin Carlin and his wife, Doris. The “Company” as it is locally known is a major player in the eastern region of the former colony of North Carolina’s T-Shirt, Hat & Sandal market, and from the years 2001 to 2011, the “Company” has employed at least 7 Beaufort locals and utilized approximately 2 flat bottom skiffs.
While the Beaufort Trading Company does not have powers to imprison or execute, and really has no interest in negotiating treaties or establishing colonies, they are extremely interested in providing you with the best quality Beaufort sports wear, casual apparel, and footwear.
